Lamb Energy's solar photovoltaic (PV) systems allow customers to turn sunlight into electricity.  Solar PV systems have been used as a reliable source of electricity generation for over 30 years.  Once installed, the systems require virtually no maintenance and provide reliable power for well over 25 years.  To learn more about the process of turning sunlight into usable electricity, please visit the National Renewable Energy Laboratory's (NREL) website.

Those businesses and government agencies that install solar PV systems often enter into a net metering agreement with their local utility.  When the PV system is producing more electricity than is being used, the client's utility meter spins backwards and the client receives credit for the electricity being distributed back into the grid.  Under this agreement, the customer can eliminate all or a portion of its monthly electric bill.  With steadily increasing electricity rates, the avoided cost of electricity results in an attractive return on investment.

Solar electricity systems produce zero carbon emissions.  Electricity produced from coal and natural gas produces 2.10 and 1.32 pounds of carbon emissions per kilowatt-hour, respectively.  These carbon emissions are eliminated by using clean solar power.  Depending upon the utility and the incentives available, some customers are eligible to receive Renewable Energy Credits (RECs).  In some cases, the RECs can be sold to another party to increase the financial attractiveness of installing a solar PV system.

Incentives

California Solar Initiative (Investor Owned Utilities)

The California Energy Commission launched the California Solar Initiative in January of 2007.  This program requires that each investor owned utility provide a rebate for customers who install a solar system.  For SoCal Edison, PG&E and SDG&E customers, there are two separate rebate programs:

Expected Performance Based Buy down (EPBB)

This program provides a one-time, upfront incentive for solar electric systems less than 100 kW. Rebate amounts are determined by the expected performance of the system. Expected performance is calculated based on equipment rating and installation factors, such as geographic location, tilt and shading.

Performance Based Incentive (PBI)

This program provides monthly incentive payments based on energy production over a 5-year period for solar electric systems 100kW or greater, although any other size system may also opt into the PBI incentive structure.

The rebates available under this program decrease as new customers apply for and receive funds.  The sooner you install your system, the greater the rebate amount.  Ultimately, the rebate amount will decrease to zero.  Don't miss out on this great opportunity to increase your return on investment.

Municipal Publicly Owned Utilities

Each municipal utility located in California offers a rebate program that incentivizes their customers to install a solar energy system.  If you are a municipal utility customer and would like to know more about the current solar rebate offered by your utility, please contact us.

Federal Tax Credit

The Federal Government offers businesses a 30% tax credit that can be redeemed as a cash grant or used as a credit.  As with all solar related incentives, Lamb Energy is happy to help its clients with obtaining the available credits or funds.
